The small print

Terms for training sessions, follow-up, retainers, and other work. Plain language on purpose. Questions about any of it: dean@maka.works.

1. What a training session includes

  • A planning call before we meet, about 30 minutes, to agree on the problem, the tool, and what a useful result looks like.
  • A live working session of 2½ hours, in person on Oʻahu or by video, on the task we agreed.
  • Documentation written for your process and your people, in the format agreed during planning (for example a written guide, a video, slides, or a quick reference).
  • One follow-up call, about 30 minutes, within 14 days of the session.

Decision pending: whether the follow-up call is included at every tier, or included for groups and optional for the one-person session.

2. What a session does not include

  • Software subscriptions, paid AI plans, or any other tool costs. If a job is worth a paid plan, we tell you before you spend anything.
  • Integrations, account setup beyond what the session covers, or custom builds. These can be scoped as a separate setup project (section 6).
  • Ongoing support, on-call monitoring, or unlimited troubleshooting after the follow-up call. Continued help is available through a retainer (section 5) or a booked review (section 7).
  • Voice agents, private or local AI installs, or connections to accounting or scheduling software, unless scoped separately.

3. Pricing, tax, and payment

  • Published prices are per session, per group, not per person, and include Hawaiʻi General Excise Tax.
  • Group size is counted at planning.
  • Sessions for more than 20 people, association events, and employer workshops are quoted by format and audience.

Decision pending: what happens if a group is larger on the day than the tier booked (move to the next tier, or a per-person addition).

Decision pending: payment terms: deposit or full payment at booking; invoice due date; accepted payment methods.

Decision pending: rescheduling and cancellation: notice period, whether a deposit is refundable, and what happens if Dean has to reschedule.

4. Location and travel

  • In person anywhere on Oʻahu.
  • Neighbor islands by video at the published price. In-person visits to Maui, Kauaʻi, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, or Hawaiʻi Island by arrangement, with travel costs agreed in writing before booking.

Decision pending: whether any part of Oʻahu carries a travel charge, or whether island-wide travel is included.

5. Retainer

  • A monthly block of Dean’s time for questions, tool changes, and processes that stop behaving. Quoted individually once we have worked together.
  • Retainer time is for questions and guidance, not on-call monitoring of your systems.

Decision pending: hours per month at each level; whether unused hours roll over (recommended: they do not); billing date; notice period to cancel (recommended: 30 days).

6. Setup projects

  • A written scope, a fixed project fee, a handoff, and an agreed support period, all in writing before work starts.
  • We check what your existing tools already do before proposing anything custom.
  • Work happens in your own accounts. You keep ownership of everything built.

7. Follow-up reviews

  • For previous clients. One agreed question or workflow per session. Quoted per session.
  • Not an open-ended support subscription.

8. Confidentiality and your information

  • Nothing of yours goes into an AI tool until we have agreed, together, what is safe to share, in which account, with which settings.
  • While learning, we can use made-up or redacted information.
  • Training, account settings, and redaction reduce risk. They do not guarantee confidentiality, accuracy, or legal compliance. A paid account alone is not a privacy guarantee.
  • Regulated or sensitive work (for example health, legal, or financial records) may need review by your own IT, legal, or other qualified adviser. We will tell you when we think it does.
  • Dean keeps what he learns about your business in confidence.

Decision pending: whether to offer a signed non-disclosure agreement on request.

9. What AI output is

  • AI drafts. You send. Every draft, table, or summary produced during or after a session is a starting point for your review, not a finished or approved document.
  • You remain responsible for anything you send, publish, or act on.

10. Group talks and workshops for associations and employers

  • Live facilitation, beginner workshops, or an adapted group session, agreed in advance with the host.
  • No accreditation, continuing-education credit, or training subsidy is implied unless stated in writing.

11. Testimonials and examples

  • Examples on the website are teaching scenarios with fictional information, not records of client work.
  • Quoted recommendations are from people who have worked with Dean and are used with their permission.

12. Changes to these terms

  • These terms may change. The version in effect is the one on this page on the day you book.

Decision pending: whether booked clients are held to the version they booked under (recommended: yes).
